STUDENT-RUN RADIO AT GW?
September 11th, 1986:
Program Manager James Snyder and Station Manager Greg Wymer had a goal in the fall of 1986: make WRGW student-run radio. The goal took flight in September as GW Provost William Johnson agreed to read the comprehensive proposal written by the WRGW managers.
The plan would split WRGW into the student-run radio station on campus, seperate from The Radio and Television's station, which would continue to use the six current transmitters in the residence halls. If Provost Johnson accepts the proposal, WRGW could be on the air in six weeks, according to Snyder.
The proposal outlines the organization of the station, technical specifics and needs and business proposals and outlines. Although there has been no formal opposition from the Radio and Television Department, phone calls were not returned. However, the attempted removal of WRGW transmitters in June from buildings may be a sign of resistance.
