WRGW SWITCHES TO STRONGER TRANSMITTERS!

September 22nd, 1980:

Using an obscure FCC clause that allows stations to broadcast to the limits of its property, WRGW took to the airwaves with stronger transmitters placed on the roofs of GW residence halls.

Being only one of two stations in the country to use "matched antenna systems", GM Jim Sandnes hopes to reach more students and Foggy Bottom residents at am 540. Broadcasting from the Marvin Center, WRGW continues to broadcast to best mix of New Wave music, hoping to draw GW listnerers away from other commercial stations.  With a combination of Jazz, Spanish and World Music, WRGW has a lot to offer.  Sandnes hopes this mix and campus-oriented format will expand WRGW's importance on campus.
