CONTROL ROOM SUPPLIED! October 21st, 1958: Finally reaching the desk of high level University officials, the proposal for a student radio station may become a reality. The report states that enough equipment is available for a student run radio station to operate. The only remaining piece is manpower.
Having built a transmitter at no cost to the University, Gelber hopes to generate revenue through commercials, with The Hatchet showing as perhaps a major source of advertising. However, despite the facilities and planned funding, the station would not be operational without student staff. With support from the head of the Speech department, Dr. Leggett, and Lillian Brown, Director of Radio and Television in the University's Public Relations office, as well as the Student Council President, the dream does not sound too far off. Gelber says, "I don't see how anyone can lose on a deal like this." ~Investigated by WRGW staff comprised from the GW Hatchet's Archives |
