RADIO AND TV STATION AND FACILITIES OPEN! November 2nd, 1987: Surrounded by 50 professors, faculty, administrators and students, GW President Lloyd Elliott cut the ribbon on the studios of the RTV program's new studios in the former United Methodist Church on 20th St. Elliott thought the site was perfect, saying "I'm awaiting the miracles that may happen here". "Students can now reach 120 classrooms, broadcast the degree program throughout the University and do teleconferencing around the world," Elliott said. A short tribute to Prof. Edwin Stevens, the man who spearheaded the move for the University to create a Radio and Television Program for undergrads, followed. "It was largely through his persuasion and buttonholing that we hired a full-time TV instructor, added a TV course and scraped together enough funds to create a little makeshift studio in the basement of Lisner Auditorium," Prof. William Reynolds stated. WRTV, the department's radio station directed by faculty and staffed by students, will also go on the air this month at 600 am. Focusing on GW affairs, student programming, academics and sports, the station gives students a hands-on approach to learning. ~Investigated by WRGW staff comprised from the GW Hatchet's Archives |
