WRGW RESPONDS TO AND COVERS REAGAN SHOOTING!

March 30th, 1981:

As the chaos swirled around downtown DC and the gW campus, WRGW stepped up, providing coverage of the shooting and hospitalization of those involved in the Reagan shooting in DC.

As Reagan, Press Secretary James Brady, Secret Service Agent Timothy McCarthy and Metro PD Officer Thomas McCarthy were rushed to GW's Hospital, Ross Hall became the center of media attention.

WRGW provided extensive coverage not only on campus, but worldwide.  Due to a lack of available phones lines and space, WRGW provided on-hand accounts for media outlets across to globe.  "Stations were calling us like mad even before the networks set up.  We had 20 to 30 calls every 5 minutes," Station Manager Jon Sandes stated.  WRGW served as a point of information for The Hatchet and ABC News specifically, as camera crews and reporters had a hard time getting access to the Medical Center.
