WRGW TO BROADCAST AGAIN, TOMORROW!!

March 31st, 1986: After an 18-month hiatus, GW's radio station will resume broadcasting tomorrow with the assistance of Program Board chairman, Frank Farricker.  Last week, WRGW leaders were presented with a list of provisions set forth by University Provost, William D. Johnson and the Communication and Theatre Department.  Farricker has been working side-by-side with former WRGW Chief Engineer James Snyder to lobby enough support to reorganize the station.

The agreement provisions for WRGW are:

  • Broadcasting will be limited to the Marvin Center and will not be extended to the Residence Halls or other University facilities without explicit approval of the Provost's office.
  • Responsibility for operating the station, including care and upkeep of the equipment and all appropriate associated activities, is currently vested in a duly recognized student group known as WRGW.
  • WRGW Radio agrees that it will operate the station in a technically competent and professional manner, and in accordance with its construction and operations guide.
  • WRGW Radio understands that the authority provided above is for a limited time and will expire when the Department of Communications and Theatre is ready to assume responsibility for the station.  When this occurs, the station and all equipment purchased with University funds and/or given to the University for use by the station, will be turned over to the Department or its successor.

In preparation for the resumption of broadcasting, WRGW's Executive Board was selected last week.

Congratulations to the new board:Greg Wymer

-Program Director: Still to be determined...

When Farricker was asked about WRGW's possibility of getting an FM station he replied, "GW cannot have a radio station with an FM frequency because of its location between the White House and the Pentagon.  An FM frequency would interfere with government transmissions."
