The Damned will perform at the 9:30 Club on Friday, May 2nd as part of their North and South America tour, promoting material from both their most recent album Darkadelic, as well as their more well known work from the 1970s and 80s. The Damned formed in London in 1976 as part of the era’s broader UK punk scene, but as they moved away from the fast-paced gnashing guitars of punk rock and towards more theatrical styles and a distorted sound, they quickly carved their own niche as one of the most influential forerunners of the gothic rock sub-genre. The Damned have been a powerful influence on artists all the way from Depeche Mode to The Replacements, so you might as well check them out while you still can!
