Women’s basketball suffers heartbreaking loss to Howard

By Peter Capote

Women’s Basketball suffered a crushing loss as time expired last night against Howard University. GW lost 62-60 on a three-point miss by Jaeda Wilson that on first glance looked like it was going to be a game winner.

Coming off a big loss to Temple this weekend, the Revs bounced back with scrappy play. This was a game
won by points in the paint with very little jump shots flying from both teams.

During the second quarter, Howard took a 15 point lead primarily off sloppy GW play. The Revs crawled back to take a one point lead in the 4th but couldn’t maintain it.

Howard’s inability to hit free throws, shooting only 69%, was one of the reasons GW was able to stick around in this game along with excellent defensive effort.

Late in the 4th quarter GW struggled with shot selection and turnovers. Coach Adeduntan wished the team had been more efficient with the ball and not turning it over in the final minutes.

When asked about the final play, a three-point shot to win the game, Coach
Adeduntan stated, “It was an open look play designed to get a scoring chance.”

GW did get positive points and efficient defense from its bench, a fact not lost by Coach
Adeduntan who stated that her lineup is, “still very fluid of who may be her starters.”

Gabby Reynolds led GW scoring with 15 points alongside Jaeda Wilson who had 13. Howard’s leading
scorers were Zennia Thomas with 15 points and Nille Miller with 13.

GW looks to bounce back with a win at Longwood next Monday before meeting cross town rival
Georgetown on the 21st.
