Texas Is The Reason will be coming to Union Stage on October 20, 2026! The night will be opened by Her Head’s On Fire and Common Sage.
Formed in 1994, Texas Is The Reason is one of the most foundational bands in the emotional post-hardcore scene. Though the band split after releasing their sole full-length album, Do You Know Who You Are?, they have recently reunited to celebrate their 30-year anniversary (minus their original guitarist, Norman Brannon).
The band was founded by veterans of the hardcore scene, former Shelter guitarist Norman Brannon and 108 drummer Chris Daly; this background inspired them to carve out a space that moved away from the typical aggression of the genre, opting instead for intricate guitar work, subtle build-ups, and emotionally intense vocals. For a deep dive into the band’s revolutionary sound, I’ve previously written a full analysis of DYKWYA? for the blog, which can be accessed here. Texas Is The Reason is widely considered to have defined the second-wave emo genre and has inspired bands like Dashboard Confessional, Basement and Citizen, so check them out while you still can!
