CONCERT PREVIEW: Chappell Roan @ Black Cat, 2/26

By Hannah Krantz

Chappell Roan was signed to Atlantic Records at just 17-years-old, and soon moved from Missouri to LA to pursue music full time. The now 24-year-old exploded in popularity in 2020 after releasing “Pink Pony Club.” Chappell’s clear and passionate vocals ring out personal yet danceable lyrics; she sings about finding queer community, her move from Missouri to LA and the ups and downs of her romantic life. Other times, her lyrics are purely nonsensical. No matter what her focus is for each song, one thing holds true: it’s excellent.

Chappell is bound to have every queer concert attendee jumping and screaming along while simultaneously tugging heart strings with her pop ballads of self-acceptance. Each show has a theme, which she announces on TikTok, including goth grunge glitter, drag & disco and rhinestones and rainbows (the DC show theme!). Chappell is still a relatively small artist, and I expect her concert to be nothing less than a magical, sparkly experience that absolutely exudes fem lesbian energy. Get your tickets here!
