A fresh face in the electro-pop scene is headed to D.C. next week. After the release of her third EP, the Swedish artist Cobrah brings her world tour Succubus to the 9:30 Club next week. Cobrah cites her work as self-indulgent and her hardcore stage presence as a simple expansion of herself, but the artist has also been described as Sweden’s newest sensation. The release of her first single “IDFKA” in 2018 propelled her into the mainstream light, but it was also a moment of fruition in terms of sound. While minimal, the single offers a modernist approach to electronic beats and fits in perfectly with other tracks off of her first EP, ICON. Cobrah introduces an alternative format to electro-pop with commanding beats and a rap like lyricism. Tracks such as “FEMININE ENERGY” and “SUCK” showcase Cobrah’s unapologetic approach to songwriting and production.
