PHOTO ESSAY: Election Day 2024 in D.C.

By Nancy Kiner

On Tuesday, over 200,000 D.C. voters exercised their civic duty. Across all eight wards, the District voted overwhelmingly blue, securing three electoral votes for Vice President Kamala Harris. Initiative 83, which allows ranked-choice voting starting in 2026 and permits unaffiliated voters to cast ballots in the primaries, was also passed with 73% voting yes. These decisions feel hollow in the face of Donald Trump’s victory as president and D.C.’s systemic disenfranchisement with no representation in a, now Republican controlled, Senate. The following photos were taken on November 5. They follow voters from our capitol in and beyond the polling place.
