British indie rock band The Wedding Present will perform at Black Cat on April 6th as part of their North American tour. They’ll be playing their 1991 album Seamonsters in its entirety for its 35th anniversary, as well as other material from their four-decade-long career. The Wedding Present formed in Leeds in 1985 as part of the era’s Smiths-influenced C86 scene, but they moved away from the bright jangle pop guitars of British indie towards a more distorted and American-indie rock-influenced sound on their 1991 album Seamonsters, produced by the legendary Steve Albini. The Wedding Present carved their own niche in the 90s as influential forerunners of the indie rock and britpop sub-genres, and were a powerful influence on bands all the way from Pavement to Supergrass, so check them out while you still can!
