SENIOR FAREWELL: Madi Girault

By Madi Girault

I have been racking my brain about what to say about this organization. But every word I typed didn’t seem to encapsulate the immense amount of love I have for the org and the people in it. I joined radio my freshman year because someone I had met in the music industry said that’s how she got started, so naturally, I copied her. The first time I walked into the station it felt like coming home. I was a lost and scared freshman but after the open house, suddenly, this campus felt less lonely. Throughout the pandemic, the org offered me the only sense of a “normal” college experience of recording a one-hour show every week. Giving me an outlet to process how I was feeling each week.

Joining the board, I met some of my closest friends and biggest challenges. Fall of 2021 my mental health plummeted, but I knew that every Sunday night at 7 pm there was a group of people to talk to and make me laugh. I have met people whose paths I might not have crossed otherwise but I can’t imagine this experience without them.

Becoming the Marketing director has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had at GW. Getting to work with every department at WRGW and see each other thrive and grow the station to the best of its ability has been truly a dream. Designing this year’s merch was one of the hardest and most exciting projects I have worked on; getting to see my designs around campus means the world to me and always makes me smile.

Seeing WRGW continue to evolve and grow as an organization has been such a special experience, and getting to work with other passionate individuals has been infectious. It truly takes a village to run this org and I am so happy I was able to be a part of it.

Abi and Bryn: Thank you for taking the time to make sure WRGW is home to many. Your leadership has allowed this organization to grow and flourish. You both have been an incredible sounding board for me as I found my footing as a designer and artist.

David: Thank you for being one of my closest friends on board; you have been such an amazing friend and person to lean on when I feel overwhelmed. Never in my life did I think I would befriend the sports director, but here we are.

Claire: Thank you for choosing me to be the assistant music director, and letting me join board. You have become one of my closest friends at gw and someone who always manages to lift me up when I need it most. We truly embody that opposites attract, but your unwavering support for my art and belief in me I will truly cherish for the rest of our lives.

Noor: We met on the first day of class freshman year, I can’t imagine doing this crazy college experience without you. Our movie nights over zoom throughout covid truly kept me sane and connected to the world. I don’t even have the words to express my love and gratitude to you. I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you accomplish.

Anusha and Grace: Thank you for inviting me to be on one of the best shows at WRGW! MVP was the highlight of my time at WRGW, getting to dip my toe in other departments and learning I curse too much ever to be a talk show host!

My Friends and family: Thank you for listing to my shows every week, even when I play the same songs in different orders, and reminding me that I am not just playing into the void.

Future WRGW board: Enjoy this time as much as you can; yes, radio is a lot of work, but it is also rewarding and exciting. Dream big this organization has been built and sustained by college students with a passion and love for radio. As hard as it is to say goodbye I know this org is in great hands with the next generation, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for each and every one of you.
