Fog Lake 10/23
Fog Lake is a solo project by Aaron Powell that will take the stage at Songbyrd Music House on October 23rd. For the last decade, the Canadian native has used music as a cathartic release, intertwining painfully somber and nostalgic sounds. Artist and owner of the independent record label Orchid, Warren Hildebrand, signed powell in 2014 and will now join him on tour with his own solo project, Foxes in Fiction. The label focuses on producing original music that “breaks free of the established norm, disregards trends, reflects the dedication of its creator, and provokes a strong emotional resonance within whoever experiences it”. The subject matter of the Fog Lake project echoes this objective. The music can be categorized as a mix of ambient, indie folk/rock, bedroom pop, shoegaze, and alternative. The newest album, Midnight Society (May 2023), features themes of loneliness, regret, and unrequited love.

Saturdays at Your Place 10/30

Saturdays at Your Place are finally taking the main stage at Songbyrd on October 30th! Almost two years after their hit EP always cloudy, the Kalamazoo native band has been on a string of tours and festivals opening for notable emo bands like Free Throw, Hot Mulligan, and – most recently – Prince Daddy & the Hyena. This three-piece band, known for their heart-breakingly honest lyrics and bright guitar riffs that create unforgettable songs, is ready to start their first headlining tour with the it’s always cloudy tour.
