CONCERT REVIEW: Alex G @ The Anthem, 10/17

Seeing Alex G headline for the first time was simply watching 4 guys jam out on stage- and it was absolutely awesome.  My friend and I arrived early, wanting a spot closer to the stage while also leaving time for me to speak to and take pictures of fans in the line. Outside the venue, the people I met were pleasant and fun to talk to, most having listened to him for a long time and being able to name their favorite tracks from the new album. Whenever I asked to take a picture of them, the answer was always a quick “Yes!” and generally some small talk while my polaroid camera printed the photo. Excitement flowed through the long line, which stretched much further than I expected it to before we ended up settling into a spot.

PREVIEW: Yung Lean @ The Anthem 10/19

On October 19, Swedish cloud-rap pioneer Yung Lean brings his Sad Boys universe to The Anthem in Washington, DC. A viral breakout in 2013 with “Ginseng Strip 2002,” Lean helped define internet-born cloud rap and has since grown into a cult touring artist with atmospheric beats, woozy synths, and melancholic, deadpan vocals. Expect a set that blends early favorites and newer work, likely including “Ginseng Strip 2002,” “Kyoto,” “Yoshi City,” and “Agony,” alongside material from his 2025 album Jonatan, like “Forever Yung.”

CONCERT REVIEW: Molchat Doma @ The Anthem, 2/11

Starting out in 2017, Belarusian post-punk band, Молчат Дома (Molchat Doma), immediately brought something new to the table. Although heavily inspired by acts like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and Soviet-era band Kino, they marked a new era in modern post-punk as a whole. The lead singer’s deep monotone voice, the heavy bass, 80s sounding synths, and already signature drum machine have created an easily-recognizable “Molchat Doma” sound. This is all evident in their massive hit, “Судно (Борис Рыжий)” from their 2018 sophomore album, Etazhi, that exploded their sound into international acclaim. Currently on the North American leg of their ongoing world tour, the trio made a stop in D.C. on a snowy Tuesday, February 11th for a highly anticipated show at The Anthem.
