GW lack of converting opportunities seals defeat to crosstown Georgetown

By Henry Simon Alexander

The Smith Centre was packed to capacity for the second year in a row to watch the George Washington Revolutionaries take on the Georgetown Hoyas Friday evening. The Revs fell by a score of 76-68.

Both teams traded scoring runs in the first half. GW found success from three, while GU used its size to dominate the paint. The game at the half was 38-38.

However in the second half, GU found their stride, shooting 15/31 from the floor. A 8-0 GU run at the 16:31 mark gave the Hoyas a lead that they did not give up. GW did cut it to 63-60 but were unable to fully mount the comeback.

The Hoyas won the points off turnovers battle 14-6, which ended up being the difference. Jaland Love led GU in scoring with 19 points, and the bench added on another 27. GW had Lovro Urbiha, Dylan James, Omari Witherspoon, and Promis N’Landu all finish in double digits.

Georgetown Coach Ed Cooley praised his team effort and GW fans/students for packing the Smith
Centre. He called the physical nature of the game, “Something you see in Big East conference play.”

GW Coach Chris Caputo praised the process of his team playing in front of what he called, “The
best thing GW had to offer only outside of GW Law and Elliott School.”

Both coaches stated they would like to see this as a regular season game down the road. The Revs open up their season on Nov. 2, against Navy.
